A GUISELEY group which is celebrating collecting more than 10,000 bags of litter is being praised for inspiring other groups around Leeds.
The Litter Free Guiseley group, which was set up 17 years ago, passed its landmark milestone earlier this month. It won praise from one of the key administrators for Litter Free Leeds, Alan Mann. He described Guiseley organisers Jeff Yates and Peter Corry and their group of volunteers as “an inspiration to all of us”.
He added: “They were the catalyst for a conference that was held at the Pudsey Civic Centre several years ago where voluntary groups and individuals took part in a council led consultation event alongside the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign that ultimately created Litter Free Leeds.
“Today we are proud to say we have in excess of ten separate groups from Oakwood to Hunslet, and many more individuals who all contribute towards making this city a better place to live.”
