CONSERVATIVE candidate David Nunns has been elected to serve on Ilkley Town Council.
The longtime Ben Rhydding resident was successful in last week’s by election which was held to fill a vacancy for the Ben Rhydding ward on Ilkley Town Council.
David has already been keen to get stuck into the role by joining Bradford District Councillor Kyle Green (Con, Ilkley) during a street surgery in Ben Rhydding discussing issues raised by local residents.
Speaking about his election success David said: “I would like to thank all the residents of Ben Rhydding who have placed their trust in me to represent Ben Rhydding on the Town Council.
“As many people may already know, I am passionate about the Town in which we live, and will do all I can in conjunction with our district Councillors, to tackle the current problems we face, especially in respect of anti-social behaviour, local policing of the area, along with local traffic and parking problems, including fighting the local development plan which threatens to destroy large areas of our precious green belt.
“It is with these problems in mind that I will take up my position on the council and hopefully be able to make a difference for the good of our Town."
Cllr Green added: "I am delighted to now be able to work with David in helping to address issues such as speeding, drug use and crime along with the Labour proposed local plan.
"David is passionate about our wonderful town and I hope that his election will encourage the town council to stop acting politically and start working for all residents to deliver value for money from Bradford Council and to keep our town such a special place to live and visit."
David secured 634 votes; Susan Fricker for the Labour Party received 460 votes and Steve Spoerry for the Liberal Democrats received 366 votes.
Electorate: 4068; total votes cast: 1465; turnout was 36.01 per cent.
