FOLLOWING the relaxation of lockdown rules in June, Ilkley Playhouse opened its doors once again and has performed to sell-out audiences with its 8x8x8 festival and the most recent drama Picnic at Hanging Rock.
They have been incredibly well received and we have been delighted to welcome back our audiences; to give them an evening of quality entertainment in an environment that is safe and welcoming and where all current Covid regulations are being strictly adhered to.
Our next instalment of entertainment is Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children which runs in the Wildman Theatre from Tuesday, July 20 to Saturday, July 24.
This is a beautifully written and deeply suggestive piece of work, provoking questions that will continue to nag long after the lights go down. Like all good plays, it entertains but also evokes serious thought.
On a simple level, it can be viewed as witty and charming. But The Children also carries a powerful message and challenges the audience to think about responsibility from one generation to the next. Please note that there will be a live Q&A session following Friday’s performance.
Looking ahead to the bank holiday weekend, Ilkley Playhouse will be presenting Bard in the Yard incorporating two half-hour Shakespeare plays in one performance: the iconic Macbeth and romantic comedy Twelfth Night. The plays will be performed in the Wildman Theatre on Saturday, August 28 at 7.30pm. If you fancy a bit of outside entertainment, the plays will also be performed in The Manor House Courtyard on Sunday, August 29 and Monday, August 30 at 2pm.
Fast forward to September, our new season kicks off with Agatha Christie’s The Hollow. This is a thriller of passion and betrayal in which an unhappy game of romantic follow-the-leader explodes into murder in one weekend at The Hollow.
