THE YORKSHIRE Party is calling on Boris Johnson to resign after he admitted attending a Downing Street "bring your own booze" event during lockdown.
Mr Johnson had previously declined to confirm or deny that he was at the party in the garden of Number 10 in May 2020. During Prime Minister's Questions he admitted he was there but said he thought it was a work event.
The claim was greeted with derision by many in Parliament and around the country.
Yorkshire Party Leader Bob Buxton said: "The PM has to resign. His excuses are so ludicrous that I feel embarrassed for him; like in Withnail and I, he claims to have gone to a party by mistake."
Withnail and I is a 1987 British black comedy film.
Dr Buxton, added:"His actions, denials and continuing excuses are an insult to everyone who has followed the rules and lost loved ones.
"He is also putting the national response to the ongoing pandemic at risk - he cannot lead and set the rules if he does not follow them.
"The Prime Minister's position is untenable. The only good thing he can now do is to resign with a proper, unconditional apology."
