FORUM 2000 members had a talk about climate change at a meeting in January.

Scientist James McKay told the meeting he and his colleagues were publicising their findings in order to recruit more people to the cause of fighting climate change.

A spokeswoman for the forum said: "He started by drawing attention to the picture on the screen which in fact had been chosen by Nature magazine as their current cover picture and which had been used around the world in the fight against pollution. His picture revealing the glaciers round Everest uses the techniques of comic designers 'adjusting' the scale but getting all the relevant detail into one picture. His rapid spin through the process of climate change from the single cell drawing oxygen from the Sun and starting photosynthesis to farming (worst idea ever) oil for fertilizer and the population explosion."

Forum 2000 meets every Wednesday from September to May at 10am, in The Grove Centre, New Street, Horsforth, LS18 4BH. Entry costs £3 and includes refreshments. Guests need to sign in with contact details and there is a cap on the number of people allowed into the hall. Programmes are now available in Horsforth Library.
