RETIRED prison governor Veronica Bird will talk about Babies Behind Bars in an event at Rawdon Community Library.

After a gap of 12 months Aireborough Civic Society has organized five talks at the library this year, alternating with community meetings.

The first talk will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 22.

A spokesman said: "Veronica Bird, OBE, Retired Prison Governor is making a return visit with a talk titled 'Babies Behind Bars' - a rather unusual and unique subject. Veronica will give an insight into how the system has changed since she first worked with pregnant women and the problems they face when giving birth in prison. How does prison affect these babies and their mothers?"

Admission is free to civic society members or £4 to non-members. Anyone who joins the society on the night for £10 will be able to have free admission to all five talks.
