MULTI award winning film The Father is to be screened at Otley Courthouse next week.

The film will be shown at 2pm on Thursday, February 24.

A Courthouse spokesperson said: "The writer-director (Florian Zeller) says he wrote this screenplay with Anthony Hopkins, who was 81 at the time, in mind. He said that if Hopkins had not agreed to the film, then it likely would have been made in French instead.

"Both Hopkins and Olivia Coleman who plays his daughter Anne, won best actor awards for their roles in this film. Unusually for movies dealing with aging and dementia it is filmed from the point of view of the afflicted person.

"Having just scared off his recent caregiver, Anthony, an ailing, octogenarian Londoner gradually succumbing to dementia, is starting to lose his grip on reality, and is struggling to navigate the opaque landscape of present and past. To make matters worse he feels abandoned when Anne, tells him she's moving to Paris.

Tickets cost £6 and include tea or coffee and biscuits from 1.30pm. Tickets are available from Otley Courthouse on 01943 467466 between10am and 2.30pm or online at otleycourthouse.org.uk. The film, which premiered in 2020, is a French-British co-production.
