ONE HUNDRED years of rugby at Prince Henry's Grammar School were celebrated with a display featuring memorabilia from the past.
Rugby was first played at the school in the 1921-22 season - and the centenary was marked by Otley Rugby Club with a display featuring prestigious cups won by the school (including the 2004 RFU Vase, won at Twickenham), rugby blazers, and sports books.
The event was well attended by past PHGS players and teachers, as well as current PHGS staff involved in extra-curricular sport, who were also invited to lunch before Otley took on Rossendale.
Curator of the exhibition and ex-PHGS student, Malcolm Grange, guided Prince Henry's Headteacher, Janet Sheriff, through the collection.
Ms Sheriff said:“This was a great event to celebrate the centenary of Rugby at Prince Henry’s. Moments such as these are a reminder of the long history of Prince Henry’s at the heart of the Otley community. We are always grateful for the support of that community – from organisations such as the Rugby Club, to the parents and carers, players and staff who continue that legacy. It was lovely to be reminded of our long history while looking forward to the exciting future which we are able to build on those strong foundations.”
