THE OTLEY and Yeadon Branch of the Labour Party has decided unanimously to reselect Alex Sobel as its candidate for the next General Election.
The decision was made by 24 votes to 0 at a special meeting on March 2. The Labour Party is carrying out a process in every Labour held constituency where members decide whether to reselect their sitting MP or vote for a full selection process.
Otley and Yeadon Chair John Richardson said:“Alex has been a fantastic constituency MP. He has taken on many cases locally working energetically for local people. He was also very influential in securing the funding and implementation of Otley's new flood alleviation scheme which had its first successful test in the recent stormy weather.”
Branch member John Eveleigh said: “Alex is an excellent hard working MP who, in the five years that he has been in Parliament, has shown what a difference a local, community focused Labour MP can make.”
The Leeds North West MP, who is shadow minister for Nature, Water and Flooding, said: “It is a privilege to be an MP. I will continue to use my voice to call out injustice and change lives and thank my colleagues for their continued support.”
