GRAMMY-nominee Eduardo Martín and fellow countryman Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas are coming to Otley Courthouse. The show is called The Bridge: A Cuban Guitar Journey; hear classical styles and rock merge with son montunos, while old Yoruba chants, feel-good rumbas, funk-boleros, flamenco and cinematic pieces sit alongside Cuban tumbaos with slap bass.

Cubans enjoy a natural sense of rhythm, and the guitar is their favoured instrument, conveying all the melodic and rhythmic intricacies of South America’s cultural diversity. When Eduardo and Ahmed’s play together, you find yourself in an exalting celebration of that very tradition.

* The Bridge: A Cuban Guitar Journey (8th April). Start time: 7.15pm. Ticket price: £15.

Otley Green Fair is at the Courthouse on April 9 from 10am to 4pm with free entry. The fair is a celebration of ways that we can preserve the rolling hills, swaying seas and diverse wildlife that surrounds both Yorkshire and the rest of our planet. There’ll be a selection of stalls promoting eco-friendly living and sustainable causes. Stalls already confirmed include Otley 2030, Wildlife Friendly Otley, The Otley Orchard Project, Wharfedale Beekeepers, Friends of Wharfedale Greenway, Otley Community Allotment & JMB Fine Art Images, amongst others. Entry is free and it’ll be dedicated to all things green and all things Otley!

There will also be a children’s caterpillar-making workshop with Vickie Orton in the morning (£6 per child, free for accompanying adult) and a free sticker art workshop in the afternoon. The café will be serving vegan and vegetarian food too.

On the very same evening Otley Courthouse has got the recording artist Emma Smith playing a show called The American-ish Songbook. Ranging from Gershwin to Dylan, it’s a celebration of the American-Jewish composers who contributed to America’s most classic songwriting! Emma wanted this performance to reflect on her Jewish heritage and remind her audience of the Jewish community’s contribution to popular music as we know it.

One of the UK’s most-revered jazz vocalists, Emma has performed with the likes of Michael Bublé, Robbie Williams and fronts her own group The Puppini Sisters. This promises to be a truly unmissable evening.

The American-ish Songbook (9th April), start time: 8pm. Ticket Price: £16.
