ILKLEY'S MP Robbie Moore has expressed his joy following a visit to Ben Rhydding Primary School, where he planted a tree in the school grounds. The visit and tree planting came as part of the ‘Million Tree Pledge’ for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. As part of the pledge, one million trees will be planted across the globe as part of the jubilee celebrations.
Ben Rhydding School were celebrating ‘Earth Week’, giving pupils the chance to learn about the environment and climate change, ahead of this year’s Ilkley Carnival. During the visit, Mr Moore spoke at the whole school assembly and met with members of the School Council.
He said: “It was brilliant to visit Ben Rhydding School just before the Easter break, and I was honoured to be the first person to plant a tree as part of One Britain One Nation’s campaign to plant one million trees across the globe for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
"This is a great initiative; not only will it improve our environment, but it will leave a lasting legacy to the incredible service of Her Majesty the Queen, at a local, national and international level.
"The visit came as part of ‘Earth Week’, a fantastic initiative run by Ben Rhydding School to teach pupils about how we all have a part to play in protecting the environment and stopping climate change. It was also a pleasure to speak to the full school assembly as well as the school council on these matters.”
