ILKLEY MP Robbie Moore has celebrated the additional funding awarded to Ilkley Grammar School, following his lobbying of Government ministers for a new roof at the school.
The Government announced this funding as part of the School Rebuilding Programme, as one of approximately 60 schools to be included in the latest round of funding.
At the end of last year, Moore raised the condition of Ilkley Grammar School’s roof directly with The Department for Education during a Parliamentary Question. He noted that the roof has internal damage and is prone to leaking, and in a small part of the school, the roof unfortunately collapsed. Moore noted that past applications for a roof replacement had been rejected, and urged the Government to use future funding schemes to help Ilkley Grammar School.
The School Rebuilding Programme is carrying out major rebuilding and refurbishment projects at 500 schools and sixth form colleges across England, prioritised according to the condition of their buildings.
Robbie Moore MP said: “I am absolutely delighted that after much lobbying on this in Westminster, I have managed to secure this much-needed funding for Ilkley Grammar School to improve their facilities. I raised this issue directly with the Education Secretary in the House of Commons Chamber to bring it to the forefront of the Government’s attention, and I am delighted they have responded.
"Ilkley Grammar School is a fantastic place, and all the staff there do a great job for our local young people. However, there is no denying parts of the school need funding for building repair, so these monies will help provide a better learning environment.
"As your local MP, I do all I can to get the job done and make sure Ilkley gets the support it deserves. Securing this funding was important, but I will keep pushing to make sure our town can get even more.”
