Yorkshire Water urges customers to use water wisely

Due to the lack of rainfall this spring and summer, reservoir levels are lower than normal for this time of year. 

The Bradford-based water company has asked customers to allow their lawns to go brown, not to wash their cars for a couple of weeks, and to turn off the tap when brushing their teeth.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said:“Yorkshire has experienced a particularly dry spring and summer, which has meant our reservoirs are lower than normal for this time of year.

“During the hot weather, we’ve been supplying more water than normal to our customers.

"That’s why we’re asking our customers to use water wisely and allow their lawns to go brown, not wash the car for a few weeks and turn the taps off when they’re brushing their teeth to stop waste and reduce the likelihood of restrictions later in the summer."

The below pictures are of Lindley Wood Reservoir, a compensation reservoir to the north of Otley, where extra water is held.

Though water levels look low, the water that would have been stored there has been used in the water supply chain.
