A HUGE boost for struggling families who still want to be able to take their children on days out this summer has been launched by the Royal Armouries Museum, based in Leeds.
The free-to-visit museum recognises the pressure a lot of families are in as energy and food prices escalate and knows many do not have much money to spare.
A spokesperson from the museum said: “Even though the Royal Armouries is free to visit, we know that the cost of living crisis will affect families struggling over the summer holidays. We have an action-packed summer of free events and by offering a children’s lunch for families finding it difficult we hope to make a trip to the Royal Armouries as accessible as possible.
"We would encourage our visitors to join in with our campaign and help give families in need a little extra support during this difficult time.”
Royal Armouries is inviting visitors to get involved in the initiative and is offering people the option to help make a difference by pre-paying for a child’s packed lunch of sandwich, drink and snack.
The initiative started this week and runs until Sunday, September 4.
The Royal Armouries is the national museum of arms and armour. The venue has a packed programme of family-friendly activities throughout the summer which are also free.
Throughout August visitors will be able to watch an Elizabethan-themed horse show in the outdoor arena. Expert horse riders will bring to life the medieval sports popular during the reign of Elizabeth I.
As an added bonus, the stables will also be open to the public so visitors can meet the horses and grooms. plus, live-action combat demonstrations will be taking place in the museum with historical characters and weaponry.
Entry to the museum is free and tickets can be pre-booked online although some events may have a small charge.
The Royal Armouries Museum provides a fascinating day out for all ages as it houses a major part of the national collection of arms and armour and displays over 4,500 objects throughout its five themed galleries.
It has sites in Leeds, HM Tower of London and Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
The museum has a large presence on social media and can be followed on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
