HIGH Royds Memorial Chapel and Woodland Nature Reserve in Menston will be open for the National Heritage Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18 from noon to 4pm with with members of the Friends in attendance. The weekend will conclude with a special service, “Re-emerging (after Covid) – looking to future” starting at 4pm on the Sunday. The Service will be led by the Friends Hon. Chaplain, Revd, Andrew Howorth with members of the local Ladies Please choir leading the singing.
With the help of a grant from the Heritage Lottery fund and much dedicated voluntary help a major post Covid makeover has been carried in the past few months. New signs welcoming people to the garden and giving other details have been erected to keep visitors informed.
The Chapel has been re-decorated both inside and out and a new photographic display has been arranged. Externally all the flower beds have been renewed with soil and compost and weeding parties have been held every month to ensure the grounds are in tip-top condition.
A Friends spokesperson said: "We look forward to welcoming friends old and new."
