ILKLEY Wharfedale Rotary Club welcomed five scouts/explorers from the Wharfedale District who have qualified to go to the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in August 2023.
They each have to raise £3,000 to cover the costs of travel and accommodation, for which they are fundraising. The Rotary Club’s Youth Division presented them with a cheque for £500 (£100 for each participant) and wished them well for their trip across the world scheduled for next year.
The scouts gave a talk to the club about their fund-raising events which they have plainly enjoyed. Attending were: Noah Dockar, 17, Natalie Bowman, 15, Hannah Tomlinson, 15, Leo Easton, 14, (all 1st Ben Rhydding Explorers) and Alice Walsh, 13, Addingham Scouts.
The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is a World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) event, it happens every four years, each time hosted by a different country and involves 40 to 50,000 scouts.
It will be a life changing trip as they experience different cultures, adventurous activities, visit new places, meet new people and grow personally by meeting Scouts from around the world.
