LFW Podiatry and The Valley Clinic have joined forces to offer patients a full approach to their physical well-being.
Business owners Lynda Forbes-Wake and Liz Blizzard, who both have clinics in Ilkley, have joined forces to bring together the best in podiatry (chiropody) and physiotherapy, helping patients to understand their problem and create a treatment plan to help them get back to enjoying life, pain free.
Physiotherapists manage musculoskeletal conditions of the body such as back and neck pain, joint pains, muscle strains, arthritic conditions, headaches and sports injuries, and podiatrists manage conditions of the lower limb, conditions such as foot and ankle pain, Morton’s neuromas, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinitis as well as offering a full chiropody service for corns, callouses, and ingrowing toenails.
Lynda and Liz work in conjunction to ensure each patient presenting with problems of the lower limb receive a full multi-disciplinary approach to their care, whether this be gait analysis, exercise, joint manipulation, acupuncture, laser therapy or deep tissue massage.
They said: “Through this collaboration, we help patients to find a treatment option that works. We find a combination of treatments from our joint skill set gives maximum benefit to patients of all ages.”
Lynda said: “We often see a patient with a foot problem but realise they also have an upper body issue such as pelvic tilt or an acquired back pain. Referral to The Valley Clinic means that the patient can be treated as a whole which gives a much better treatment outcome with long lasting benefits.”
Liz added: “We look at the whole person when managing any pain or dysfunction. By improving movement patterns, muscle imbalance and posture, we can unlock the cause of recurrent sports injuries or chronic painful conditions.”
Liz and her team refer patients for a podiatry assessment when they recognise that a pathology may be a result of poor foot function, and where a better understanding of the foot alignment will help diagnose the true cause of a problem. The podiatry team can then offer a full biomechanical assessment and gait analysis to find the root cause. They added: “With an approach of both physio and podiatry, we can obtain optimal results for the patient.”
LFW Podiatry is based at 29 Ashlands Road, Ilkley as well as a second clinic in Burley Grange, Burley-in-Wharfedale and The Valley Clinic is based in the International Development Centre on Valley Drive, Ilkley.
