ON what he is certain is his 21st return to Yeadon Town Hall, joined by his regular band of choice, the Hepworth, Bradford born Frank Renton has once again chosen an eclectic programme of music for Aireborough Rotary Club’s Annual Charity Brass Band Concert.

Listen to the Band has long since been superseded by ‘Renton on Brass’ 45 minute music podcasts – a new way to hear the best of brass sounds, old and new from all over the world. Returning to his roots Frank will bring to the occasion his unparalleled knowledge of the world of brass band music presented with his own inimitable humour.

As his guest soloist for the afternoon concert Frank has invited Jim Hayes aka Jonny Midnight. Like him Jim began playing at the age of 10 joining his first band Monkwearmouth Colliery soon after. He later progressed to the Co-op Band in Glasgow and became a Geneva Instrument Company artist over the same 15 years. Two of his solos will be ‘Cry me a river’ originally written for Ella Fitzgerald in 1955 and ‘You know my name’ the theme tune for the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale.

The Hepworth Band for their part are proud to include a soloist of their own in euphonium player James Blackford, a superb musician from Australia.

From their Jubilee music repertoire the Hepworth band will include William Matthias’ Suite Vivat Regina, two Wright arrangements of Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma Variations and Overture to the Music for the Royal Fireworks. Music from South Pacific is chosen by Frank as the favourite musical of our late Queen Elizabeth II.

Aireborough Rotary Club’s Annual Charity Brass Band Concert, first staged in 1999 will this year take place at 2.30pm on Sunday 30th October at the extensively refurbished Yeadon Town Hall. Tickets priced at £15 can be obtained from the Town Hall’s Booking Office or by following the link below where a modest booking fee will be added.

Through this series of concerts more than £70,000 has been raised for local and international charities with this year’s Aireborough donations featured in the concert’s free programme.
