LOCAL Councillor Ryk Downes (Otley and Yeadon ward, Lib Dem) took a break from his busy re-election campaign to run the London Marathon last weekend.
"It's a hard race but with a great atmosphere," said Ryk, "thousands of runners and spectators all cheering us on.
"Though I did not come anywhere near the winning time of just over two hours I did manage to equal my best previous marathon time.
"After a rest I will be back in training for the Leeds Rob Burrows Marathon in May and I am looking forward to running through Otley and hope residents will give me a wave."
