FIFTEEN Liberal Democrat candidates are standing for election to Otley Town Council on May 4.
“Our commitments to the environment and community for the next four years have attracted excellent new Liberal Democrat candidates for the Town Council election,” said Cllr Richard Hughes.
“We are proud to be putting forward Liberal Democrat candidates for each seat on the Council. The team represents the ideal blend of experience and enthusiasm to move things forward."
“Our record shows we are committed to making the town centre a better place to walk and shop,” said Suli Henderson, one of the new candidates. We are proud that Otley got a 100 per cent approval rating from visitors and residents in a recent survey. We will continue to work with local residents and traders to keep Otley a vibrant, exciting town."
"There are increasing pressures on the local environment," says Mike Fawcett. “The Liberal Democrat led Town Council has been at the forefront of opposition to inappropriate development and was instrumental in causing the proposed East of Otley development to be put on hold. We are determined to oppose any development which does not benefit the people of Otley.”
"Looking after the town’s green spaces is also an area where we have worked hard over the last four years,” said Cllr Sylvia Thomson. “But there is still more to do, with improving children’s play areas being a first priority."
“The Liberal Democrats on the Otley Town Council have shown their commitment to helping residents with the cost-of-living crisis,” said Jim Spencer. “Unlike other Councils they have frozen Council Tax for the last three years and, under the Liberal Democrats, Otley has to be one of the best run Town Councils in Yorkshire.”
