GUISELEY School celebrated their inaugural Guiseley School Run on June 24, which was a roaring success with pupils, parents, staff and PTA members all showing up in force.
A school spokesperson said: "The atmosphere was full of excitement, with the weather being kind after the long, hot days beforehand. There were approximately 100 runners, joggers, and walkers on the field, some solo, some in pairs and even families - all were being cheered on by enthusiastic spectators.
"There were excellent performances across the board with many sprint finishes. Guiseley student, Lukas Brookfield, crossed the finish line first, closely followed by his brother Caspar. A special shout-out to Miss Ogden, who pushed a buggy the whole 5K run and crossed the finish line to thunderous applause.
"Once the Guiseley School Run was wrapped up, it was followed by the unveiling of our new building names. After months of deliberation and voting, the names were confirmed to be: Shires, Springhead, Albion and Moons, after the famous mills of Aireborough.
"Student Leadership were thrilled to open their new school buildings with Headteacher Mr. Paul Clayton. Year 7 student Harry Margerison was the one to cut the official red ribbon.
"Overall, an amazing weekend at Guiseley School, filled with community, togetherness, and joy."
The new buildings include a state-of-the-art sports and arts building containing a fantastic new sports hall, auditorium and peripatetic music classrooms. There is also a new general teaching block which houses English, maths, design technology and specialist, fully equipped science classrooms.
