THREE talented young mathematicians are celebrating passing their Foundation Maths GCSE at the age of just 11.
The three, Isaac Taj, Charlotte Brown, and Sebastian Collins, former pupils of Westville House School, Ilkley, sat the paper in June 2023. They were encouraged to sit the exam during their final year at Westville after joining several other children in attending a weekly after-school club for gifted mathematicians run by former Westville maths teacher Mr Chris O’Doherty.
They recently received their results and are all delighted to have passed with flying colours, achieving the highest exam grade for the foundation paper, a Grade 5.
Isaac and Sebastian now attend Ermysted’s Grammar School Skipton, and Charlotte is attending Bradford Grammar School where she gained a Headmaster’s Scholarship.
The parents of all three would like to thank Mr O’Doherty for all his help and amazing support over the past 12 months in helping the children to attain such an outstanding result.
Mr O’Doherty said: “The children needed 76% to achieve a Grade 5, but easily surpassed this with an average score of 93%.”
