PART of a road is closed for a second day after a video emerged of severe flooding from when Bradford and Leeds were battered by a thunderstorm and heavy downpours.

Low Lane, in Horsforth is closed near its junction with St James Drive and the Evans Halshaw Vauxhall car dealership.

This is due to a burst water main, according to First West Yorkshire, which is having to divert one of its services as a result.

Its 50A bus, which runs between Horsforth and Seacroft, is operating via Broadgate Lane in both directions currently.

Low Lane was covered in deep water on Bank Holiday Monday, as driving rain came down relentlessly.

Videos of the scene show cars submerged in the settled rainwater, with one vehicle abandoned and a recovery truck behind it.

One image from another part of the road showed four people, with water up beyond their knees, attempting to push a stranded car out from the flooded road, while an individual can be seen carrying another person on their back through the water.

A police car can also be spotted blocking the road in the background.

Bradford and the rest of Yorkshire and the Humber were put under a yellow thunderstorm weather warning by the Met Office on Monday.

Sy Scott described the storm as "scary but fun at the same time though".

He said on Monday: "Loads of road closures and Low lane in Horsforth has sunk in.

"It's bedlam. I've not seen a storm like this in years."

Mr Scott added: "Was crazy thunder that though, it felt different somehow, like it hit my house so hard the windows shook and rattled but in like a how I'd imagine an explosion backdraft."

The Telegraph & Argus visited Low Lane this morning and part of the road is fully fenced off, with the tarmac heavily fractured and lifted at certain points.

A number of roads in Bradford, including part of a motorway, were closed on Monday as a result of the torrential conditions.

Lightning and thunder crashed and heavy rain and pea-sized hail hit several areas across the district at around 4pm on that day.

The M606 was blocked to traffic and people parked in The Broadway shopping centre were unable to enter or exit the car park until 6pm.

Bradford Council announced that the bottom of Leeds Road, at its junction with Shipley Airedale Road, Leeds Road at its junction with Bridge Street, where Vicar Lane and Bridge Street meet, and Thornbury roundabout were impacted by flooding.

Police were also called as Ravenscliffe Avenue crumbled and a huge hole appeared.

The Telegraph & Argus has contacted Yorkshire Water and Leeds City Council for comment.
