THE Rotary Club of Ilkley has announced Moorfield School in Ilkley as the winner of its 2024 handwriting competition.
The competition aims to emphasise that good handwriting is an important skill for life even in this computer age.
Nine schools entered with pupils writing out a poem to be submitted anonymously. Judges selected the best, with one person per school winning a personalised certificate, fountain pen, biro and case.
Rotary don't name individual winning pupils from each school - only the school which had the overall best class performance.
Martin Smith, youth leader at Rotary Club of Ilkley said: "The standards overall were excellent and it was difficult for our educationalist members to assess, so all goes well for the future of pupils in the Ilkley area with their writing skills.
"We thank schools for taking part."
Another competition will take place in early 2025 with winners being announced in the spring term.
