AN Otley woman went the 'extra mile' to raise money for charity.
Kate Hobson, from Otley, and her fellow fundraisers pulled out all the stops this year for the annual Christian Aid Week appeal.
The 51-year-old is the Otley Christian Aid group organiser and helps coordinate a number of activities in support of Christian Aid.
This year, Eric Caines busked in the market place, the Bridge Church held a luncheon, the Methodist Church hosted afternoon tea and cakes at Norwood Church, and Kate also collected coins in Smartie tubes.
Kate herself went the extra mile – walking 70 kilometres in a month, in solidarity with millions of people who have to walk long distances for clean water or to sell their produce.
She said: “Last year I did a 48-hour sponsored silence which my friends said was a real challenge. This time, I decided to tackle the 70k challenge.
“It took me 25 days to complete the distance; my biggest challenge on busy days was actually going out and doing more kilometres as going to and from work didn’t count because I do it every day. I think the most I walked on one day was 12½ kilometres; my feet hurt just thinking about it again.
As a town Otley raised £1938.60.
