PEOPLE have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed as firefighters tackle a blaze.

The fire, at a scrapyard on Bradford Road in Otley, has sent black plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received the call just after 3.30pm.

"This fire is approximately 40x40m in size, with a large plume of smoke," said a spokesperson.

"Crews are using foam and large jets to tackle the blaze.

"All residents in the local area (LS21) are being asked to keep doors and windows closed due to the smoke in the air."

Engines from Rawdon, Shipley, Cookridge, Bingley, and Stanningley fire stations are all in attendance as is a special foam unit team.
