THE fire service has revealed details of the cause of a scrapyard blaze.
West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service was called just after 3.30pm on Monday to a fire at a scrapyard on Bradford Road, in Otley.
The blaze sent black plumes of smoke billowing into the air and it was roughly 40x40m in size.
Investigators were looking at how the fire started and said this lunchtime that it was caused by a lithium-ion battery igniting.
Firefighters from stations in Rawdon, Shipley, Cookridge, Bingley, and Stanningley rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze.
There was also a special foam unit team sent to the area.
Crews used foam and large jets to tackle the inferno and all residents in the local area were asked to keep doors and windows closed due to the smoke in the air.
Bradford Road was closed while the teams worked to extinguish the fire, which burned into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
