INTERNATIONAL Spanish cricketer and regional hockey star Amy Brown-Carrera has achieved top A-level grades.

Amy, from Ilkley, a student at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), has been playing cricket since the age of 11. She is also a member of the England Hockey Talent Academy, a centre of regional excellence, and plays for Leeds Hockey Club.

She achieved A*, A and B in her A-levels.

“I’m very excited to see what this next chapter brings, to meet new people and have new experiences at university,” said Amy. “Career-wise, I’m keeping an open mind, but I know that I will always continue with sport. And having just watched the Olympics, I would love to be there playing hockey or cricket for England or Spain in 2028!”

Sue Woodroofe, Principal at GSAL said: “Amy is a sporting superstar, but also a real all-rounder - she won GSAL’s prestigious Principal’s Gold Award in 2022. We are all delighted to see her hard work and dedication pay off and wish her all the very best for her future.”

Fifty-one per cent of A-levels at GSAL were awarded top A/A* grades. Eight pupils secured places at Oxbridge to study subjects including history, economics and English, and nearly a third of the cohort (67 students) achieved top grades of three As or more. Fifteen pupils achieved at least three A*s, while two students scored an incredible four A*s plus A*s in their EPQ (Extended Project Qualification).

Headline achievements included:

● 19% of grades were at A*

● 51% of grades were at A* and A

● 81% of grades were at A*-B

GSAL’s A-level class of 2024 also includes an award-winning inventor and entrepreneur and a North of England Under-18s rugby player. The majority of students have secured places at a Russell Group or a Guardian Top 30 university to study a range of courses in arts, humanities, sciences and languages, including medicine, law and engineering.

Sue Woodroofe, Principal at GSAL, added: “I’m so proud of our A-level students. They have achieved so much academically and personally, and have been wonderful role models to our younger pupils. It’s a privilege to come together today to celebrate their hard work, as well as to thank family members and teachers for their support.”
