BURLEY Show 2024 was a huge success with villagers turning out to support the annual event and showcasing their talents.

Organised by Burley Gardener’s Association, it was held on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26 at the Queen’s Hall, Burley-in-Wharfedale.

Villagers proudly entered their fruit, vegetables, flowers, pot plants, cakes, pies, biscuits and jams.

Handicrafts entries included wonderful quilts, embroideries, pictures, photographs, knitting and crochet.

The fruit and vegetable section was very strongly supported this year with some amazing specimens. The junior section was slightly down on last year but some of the animal creations from fruit and vegetable were fantastic.

Sue Vint, the show's publicity secretary said the Queen’s Hall looked wonderful.

“It was fantastic to see so many people entering. The standard of entries was very high," she said.

"Prizes were presented by Penny Wright, who is the founder of the Burley Herb Garden. She congratulated all who had won and thanked everyone who took part in this year’s show.

"Many visitors came during the afternoon to view the entries, the Queen’s Hall was heaving!

"In addition to the competition, there were several displays to view during the afternoon from David Allison’s Plants, Fruit & Vegetables, Greetings Cards by Sue, Wharfedale Honey, Jams & Chutneys, The Burley Tereli Trust, Burley Art Club and Guiding in Burley."

Sue added: “Thank you to everyone who entered the show and thank you to those who came to visit and view the show during the afternoon. It was really great to see you all and you helped to make the show a great success!”

The afternoon finished with an auction of donated entries.

Burley Show will be held again next year on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, 2025.
