Staff, parents and members of the local community came together in a night of Singo Bingo at Rawdon St Peter’s Primary School to raise money for cancer charity Maggie’s – a charity that has provided invaluable support to members of the school community.

Approximately 60 people joined in the adult-only Singo Bingo event, held at school on Saturday, October 5. Run by Shane Durrant, guests were invited to sing along whilst playing musical bingo and enjoying wine, singing and even a little dancing.

A raffle was held on the night, with prizes donated from local and regional businesses including Aylish Bakes in Rawdon, the House of Pottery in Otley, Yeadon Morrisons, and school photocopier supplier, Commerce Business Solutions and the school IT provider, Next-Gen.

The total amount of money raised on the night was just under £300 and will shortly be handed to Maggie’s along with a further £271 raised by the school in the summer.

Headteacher Lynette Clapham said: “The event was a huge success and I would like to thank the many members of our community who helped to raise money for such an important and worthwhile charity.

“Our school hall was noisy with laughter and singing, and this time from the adults instead of our children! It really was wonderful to bring so many people from our community together for a social event with a purpose.”

Maggie’s help the cancer community by providing practical and emotional support to those going through treatment and their families. Maggie’s Yorkshire, which can be found on the outskirts of the Bexley Wing at St James's Hospital is a space for being together or for a moment alone, for getting going again or for meeting people who just get it.
