ONE hundred people took part in the first Leeds Rotary Clubs’ sponsored walk at Temple Newsam for Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity, which is working to revolutionise the way dementia is treated, diagnosed and prevented.
The sponsored walk had been organised by five Leeds Rotary Clubs - Headingley, Leeds, Aireborough, Roundhay and Leeds White Rose raising £13k. The walk was inspired by Drew Dodds who has a family member with dementia and many other club members know someone affected. Dementia has a huge effect on families and the charity’s vision is a world free from the fear, harm and heartbreak it brings.
Sarah Grix, regional fundraising officer at Alzheimer’s Research U K said: "We’re so grateful to the Leeds Rotary Clubs for supporting Alzheiner’s Research UK. If nothing changes, one in two of us will be directly affected by dementia - either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves or both. Fantastic fundraising efforts like this will help us get closer to a cure for people with dementia and their loved ones."
