ON Thursday November 14th the local Amnesty group, Amnesty Wharfedale, held a joint event with the supporters of MAP (Medical Aid for Palestine) at Christchurch in Ilkley.
Sixty people attended this open event. They enjoyed a splendid middle eastern buffet meal, prepared by local residents followed by a PowerPoint presentation from local Amnesty member, Hilary Davies, who has recently returned from Palestine where she spent three months as part of the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme Palestine/Israel (EAPPI).
Her presentation gave a background to the history of the region followed by pictures showing the daily struggles experienced by Palestinians.
All proceeds from the evening went to Medical Aid for Palestine and Hebron International Resource Network. Amnesty Wharfedale meets at Christchurch, in Ilkley on the second Thursday of each month Contact Rosemary Hoyle 01943 608990 for more information.
