Two Wharfedale communities sparkled as they hosted their Christmas lights switch-on events at the weekend.
Yeadon was filled with festive cheer last night as the highly anticipated Christmas lights switch-on illuminated the town in spectacular style.
Organised by Yeadon Town Hall and Yeadon Lights Committee, the evening showcased a breathtaking light display and a packed programme of entertainment.
The free-to-attend celebration welcomed families and friends from across the area to mark the start of the Christmas season.
Hosted by the ever-energetic Tom Patrick, the event featured performances by The Trilogies vocal group, the talented Starlight Academy Choir and local stars Sienna Carter and Olivia Shilito. A special visit from Father Christmas delighted younger guests.
Jamie Hudson, CEO of Yeadon Town Hall, said: “The Yeadon Christmas Lights Switch-On is a cornerstone of our community celebrations.
“It’s fantastic to see so many people coming together to enjoy this festive occasion. The fact that it’s free to attend ensures that everyone can share in the joy of Christmas, which is what this time of year is all about.”
He said the highlight of the evening was the stunning light and pyrotechnic display which transformed Yeadon Town Hall into a sparkling winter wonderland.
He said a thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including the performers, event partners and John Waite Photography.
Dazzling lights also lit up another local community as Burley-in-Wharfedale hosted its Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday.
Celebrity guest Joe Moore switched on the lights this year and he attended with his brother Billy.
Joe is the brother of Liverpool boxer Billy Moore, and the pair are well known for their fundraising for respite facilities for people with special needs.
Up to 3,000 people attended the successful event which took place on a mild and dry day.
“Everyone enjoyed the afternoon’s entertainment including the street market stalls, craft fair, rides, Santa’s visit, local choirs and the new snowman feature,” said organisers of the Burley-in-Wharfedale switch-on. “Everyone had a good day including the local businesses who support this annual event.
“Please visit Burley-in-Wharfedale and marvel at the display and remember how much hard work is involved.”
“Tom Sumner and his team of volunteers willingly give up their time over several weeks to ensure the village continues to enjoy such a phenomenal display. A big thank you to them all.”
