GUISELEY U-17s striker Duncan Beckwith netted a hat-trick to seal a 3-2 win for Wharfedale FA as they embarked on their 2008-9 West Riding County Minor Cup campaign.
They defeated Barkston Ash FA 3-2 at Sherburn White Rose AFC on Sunday. Sherburn took the lead in the 13th minute but Wharfedale equalised in the 26th minute with a fine goal from Beckwith.
In the 63rd minute Wharfedale went in front from another excellent finish by Beckwith who went on to complete his hat-trick with another superb goal in the 84th minute.
The referee played three minutes of injury time and in the second of these Barkston Ash pulled a goal back to give the visitors a nervy last few seconds. Beckwith’s finishing was a treat to watch, each goal was taken with much aplomb and his coolness under pressure was excellent. This was a great start to this season’s campaign by the Wharfedale side.
The Wharfedale squad was: Lewis Greenwood (Otley Town); Tom Hunter (Ilkley Dynamo), Connor Brown (Otley Town), Ben Lawton (Pool AFC), Jed Copsey (Otley Town), Ben Abbiss (Guiseley AFC), Daniel Smith (Guiseley AFC), Jack Ryan (Guiseley AFC), Matthew Hartley (Guiseley AFC), Duncan Beckwith (Guiseley AFC), George Huntley (Guiseley AFC), Ben Stenton (Otley Town), Ryan Collins (Guiseley AFC), Jack Realey (Pool AFC), Joe Anslow (Pool AFC), Nathan Smith (Pool AFC), Chris Wiley (Guiseley AFC), Alex Mitchell (Guiseley AFC) This season the Minor Cup is split into groups of three playing each other home and away.
