Graffiti artist pensioners took on the youngsters at their own game when they created their own eye-catching painting.
Regulars at the Calverlands Day Centre in Horsforth, threw stereotypes aside and armed themselves with spray cans to produce their own urban art installation.
The group, some of whom were in their 80s, were led by graffiti artist Jack Watkins, 18, who works at the centre. The 10 ft by 6ft work featuring the word B.OLD was created to celebrate the International Day of Older People, and it has been on display at the art gallery in Leeds.
The art work is now back at the day centre, and it is hoped it can go on display again in the centre of Leeds.
Calverlands manager Tamsin Morris said people using the centre had been initially opposed to the concept of graffiti but had enjoyed taking part in the project.
She said: “This was about using graffiti artwork to make a strong statement and obviously we came up with B.OLD.
“We did work in the day centre and at discussion groups about the history of graffiti. It was about wanting to create something which was breaking with the stereotype of older people.
“I think it carries a very strong statement. We have got people here who have had professions and raised families and they are capable of a lot more.”
