American scarecrows are planning to invade Bramhope on – when else – Independence Day.
All Things American is the theme of this year’s village Scarecrow Hunt, which takes place on Saturday, July 4.
Part of Bramhope Primary School’s Great American Summer Fair, the hunt will start from the school at 10.30am and weave its way around the village before returning for the start of the fair, at noon.
The organisers are expecting plenty of scarecrows with costumes inspired by cowboys and Indians (native Americans), Disney characters and Hollywood.
The fair itself will include bucking broncos, cheerleaders, an assault course and hot dogs Last year’s event proved popular despite bad weather, with lots of people attempting to hunt down 40 scarecrows hidden across Bramhope. Event organiser Debbie Newman, Event said “Last year we had a fantastic turnout for the hunt – despite the torrential rain.
“It was such a fun family event we just had to run it again this year, hopefully with better weather this time. There will be brilliant models on display, so please come along and see if you can guess what they all are.”
Other US-inspired attractions at the school on the day will include a saloon bar, a surf simulator, a ‘hook a Disney duck’ competition and a chance to pan for gold, along with candyfloss and popcorn.
More traditional activities will include live music from a brass band, balloon-modelling, a cake stall and a toddler zone.
Entry to the Scarecrow Hunt costs £3.50 per family or team, while admission to the fair is free.
