A team of four energetic friends from Otley will set off on an epic three mountain fundraising challenge this weekend.
Sharron Smith, Louise Cartledge, Kelly Harrison and Rob Jackson – assisted by driver Simon Haggerty – are attempting the Three Mountain Challenge for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
The challenge involves conquering the UK’s three highest mountains. The team will start with Ben Nevis, then go on to Scafell Pike and Snowdon in quick succession.
The friends train by running on Otley Chevin and regularly meet at the Junction Inn – so have called themselves the Chevin Junckies.
Team leader Sharron, who lost her father to a heart attack, said: “I’ve always had a great love for mountains and to get to the top is such a fulfilling experience.
“I wanted to share this and also give something back to the BHF.”
The group has been overwhelmed by the local support it has received, including while collecting during last week’s Otley Town Centre Cycle Races.
Sharron said: “We’d like to say a big thankyou to everyone who supported us at the cycle races, all our sponsors and the Junction for its generosity, the No Go By farm shop, and the Up and Running sports shop.
“Anyone wanting to support us can send donations to justgiving.com/bhf, quoting the password ‘chevin’.”
