Exhibits from Otley’s past will be packed away later this month as Otley Museum prepares to move out of the Civic Centre.
The museum’s display rooms will close on January 29 to allow volunteers to start packing and storing the exhibits, which have to be moved out before the civic centre closes for redevelop-ment on April 30.
The museum’s research rooms – which contain a large collection of historical documents, building records and photographs – will remain open as usual for researchers until temporary new premises are found. The museum hopes to announce details of its new scaled-down base soon, while attempts to find a permanent new home continue.
Secretary Margaret Hornby said: “The new location and phone number for the office and documentary archive will be advertised as soon as possible and we will be using this base to work towards a new museum.
“Meanwhile, please consult the museum website for the latest news at otley museum.org.”
Anyone wishing to use the research facilities should make an appointment to visit by calling 01943 461052 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays or the first Saturday of the month, between 10am and 12.30pm.
