It’s not exactly traditional but the pork pie wedding cake went down a storm when Ben Woods married his wife Laura.
The three-tiered creation – complete with marzipan pig bride and groom – took pride of place at the reception at Denton Hall.
Ben, 30, who works for his dad Tony, at his Guiseley butchers, created the piece de resistance using three large pork pies – with the top tiers balanced on mini pork pies.
With the pies measuring 11 inches, 9 inches and 6 inches – and weighing a total of 19lb for the three tiers, there was plenty there for the guests at the evening reception.
Proud dad Tony said: “He made it from scratch himself. It was a surprise for the guests – everyone thought it was fantastic.”
Laura added: “We thought it would be nice to bring a bit of humour to it.
“A few people knew about it but a lot didn’t – and when someone had seen it everyone was going backwards and forwards to have a look at it.”
“It went down very well, and a lot of people commented on how nice it was.
But for anyone who didn’t like pork there was a more traditional cake on offer.
“We also had a normal wedding cake with sugar flowers,” Laura said.
