Burley Trojans 2 Guiseley Whites 1
Burley Trojans won the Wharfedale & District Junior Cup for only the second time after securing a narrow win in a hard-fought encounter.
The final was played at Rawdon Old Boys AFC and the big crowd was treated to an exciting encounter.
In a game of few clear chances, Burley scored the opening goal from a corner – George Clough scoring from a powerful header.
There were good saves from both goalkeepers as Burley held on to their 1-0 advantage at the break.
Guiseley started the second-half determined to break down a well-organised Burley defence, and were rewarded with an early penalty, which was driven home to level the scores.
Both teams went close and then Burley scored the all-important second goal.
A swift counter-attack down the right, and the ball was passed through to Jake Wilson whose excellent cross to the far-post was turned in by Luke Allan.
Celebrations on the pitch were ecstatic as though Burley had won the cup.
They had to hang on for 20 minutes before the cup was finally theirs.
