ST PETER’S CHURCH: Mothering Sunday was celebrated in our traditional way by children giving their mothers a little pot plant. As always these are sourced by Phyllis Robinson. A particularly poignant and historic moment was when two of her sons presented flowers to the rector – the first time in more than 1,100 years of Christian worship in Addingham that God’s female side has been represented by a female priest. The Lent groups continue to meet to discuss ‘parables and possessions’. Last week’s topic was forgiveness (of debts as well as trespasses – the course was written by the Church of Scotland) and one group managed to find a link between this and Max Weber’s thesis about the Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism. Right on cue Melvyn Bragg had three guests on his radio programme the next morning discussing the very same topic. There is a healing service at 7.30pm this evening and evensong at 6pm on Sunday. There will be a shortened holy communion at 10am on Sunday followed immediately by the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. Morning prayer continues on Tuesdays through Fridays and there is always holy communion on Wednesday at 10.30am and Sunday at 8am.
ALLOTMENTS AND GARDENS ASSOCIATION: The association is holding its Spring Show on Saturday, April 12, in the Memorial Hall at 10.30am. Schedules are available in local shops, on addinghamaga.org.uk or from committee members. Entries are taken on the day between 8am and 9.15am. Admission is £1 and includes coffee. Peter Smith will be judging. We hope to see a good display of spring flowers for the public to enjoy. Please come and join us.
