ROTARY CLUB: The weekly meeting was held on Friday in the form of a social evening replacing the usual annual ladies night. Close on 50 members and guests enjoyed an evening with a French theme commencing with dinner comprising a traditional French menu. Afterwards the entertainment was provided by Encore, with singer Maggi Stratford of Leeds accompanied by Daniel Bowater from York.
Together they gave a presentation of songs with poetry for lyrics of Edith Piaf to Jacques Brel. These were interwoven with histories, explanations and humour. It was fabulous to hear an English lady singing masterpieces of French chansons so perfectly. Closing thanks were expressed by the president, Rotarian Bill Braker.
BRIDGE CLUB: On Tuesday, March 25, seven tables played 28 boards, N/S: 1st Mr Bridge & Mr Holmes, 2nd Mr Brown & Mr Thompson; E/W: 1st Mr Kilburn & Mrs Streets, 2nd Mrs Colley & Mrs Humphries.
