Yeadon Mothers' Union marks 100th anniversary
The Mothers’ Union at St John's Church, Yeadon, celebrated its 100th anniversary with a tea party.
Organisers say the event on Sunday, March 23, was a great success.
Acting branch chair Eileen Ellis said: “The Mothers’ Union is a Christian organisation caring for mothers and families at home and abroad. Care is provided through fellowship and friendship and in many practical ways.
“These include collecting items for the Women’s Refuge, holding parenting classes and providing Away From It All holidays in a caravan in Filey. The Mothers’ Union also supports workers overseas who work with families suffering the effects of Aids, hunger and poverty. These are just a few things that the Mothers’ Union is involved with and we hope that St John’s Mothers’ Union will carry on this support in the years ahead.”
The centenary was also celebrated during the church’s Mothering Sunday service on March 30.
METHODIST CHURCH: Mothering Sunday was celebrated in the morning with service led by the Rev Rob Hilton, of Ilkley. At the close posies of daffodils were distributed to all female members of the congregation. Peter Long, president of Yeadon Charities Association, was speaker at the Monday guild. The group Aireplay entertained the women’s fellowship on Tuesday. Tomorrow, the weekly shoppers coffee morning will take place along with the listening group for confidential talking. The services on Sunday will be led in the morning by Pauline Tate and at night a circuit joint service will be held at Guiseley.
