ST PETER’S CHURCH, ADDINGHAM: Holy Week began with a particularly evocative Palm Sunday service.
A large portion of the congregation processed from the Church Hall to the church behind not just one but three donkeys, kindly brought along by Penny and Roger, members of the congregation and founders of the Hart Sanctuary in Hawkswick whose mini-donkeys help children who are coping with difficult situations.
Once inside the church we all held aloft our palm crosses to be blessed, taken home and kept until next Ash Wednesday as a reminder of the events of Holy Week and the crucifixion and resurrection of ‘our servant King’.
Addingham Christians Together (ACT) came together at the Roman Catholic Church in the afternoon for the Stations of the Cross and in the evenings of this Holy Week we have held Compline on Monday and Tenebrae on Tuesday with communion and vigil at 7.30pm this evening and the Easter vigil and first Easter eucharist starting at the experimentally early time of 9.30pm on Saturday.
At 3pm today ACT is holding an Eggsplore Easter event at the Methodist Church and on Easter day itself there will be communions at 8am and 10am, hand on church at 10am and Easter teas in the church hall from 2pm.
