WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: Celebrations are planned for the 25th birthday of Ben Rhydding WI at their next monthly meeting on Thursday, May 8. We will be indulging ourselves with scones, cream, jam and a special cake made by Julie Gilbey for the occasion. The WI resolutions for 2014 will be discussed and we are also hoping to be entertained, if not a little scared, by some stories of ghostly encounters from one of our members. The competition is for an example of members’ craft work. As always, we meet at Ben Rhydding Methodist Church Hall at 2pm and welcome visitors at a cost of £3 and prospective members.
FLAT GREEN BOWLS CLUB: The club has opened for the summer season for what promises to be a thrilling and action-packed time whether it be with a relaxing afternoon game of bowls or a local league match. An ideal opportunity is at hand in which to meet up with old friends as well as new faces. A warm welcome is offered to all prospective new bowlers as well as existing members. No matter the level of bowling experience, guidance, coaching and help in learning the game of flat green bowls is offered by our friendly team of club members. The clubhouse and green are now open throughout the summer season which extends to early October on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays during the afternoon. In addition the club is also open for bowling on Tuesday evenings from May until August. The club which is situated just off the A65 Coutances Way adjacent to the Ben Rhydding Sports Club and has its own well-equipped clubhouse together with a well-maintained six-rink bowling green where all home games are played. It has the added ease of on-site car parking. Friendly fixtures take place throughout the season as well as teams taking part in local league competitions. An end of summer club competitions weekend takes place in early September and is a highlight not to be missed.
