Older music lovers have enjoyed a special hometown performance by Otley Brass Band.
The show at Otley Methodist Church on Friday was sponsored by Otley Lions who paid for the band, the hall and the refreshments.
The group also gave free tickets away to a number of residents in care homes in Otley and Ilkley, while neighbouring Lions groups extended the offer to senior citizens in Leeds and Keighley, too.
Otley Lions’ publicity officer Patrick McCauley said: “Well over 100 people attended and Otley Brass Band performed a splendid concert of music that was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
“The evening proved a great success.”
Otley in Bloom team wins show bronze
A colour-packed ‘pocket garden’ with a nod to the Tour de France has won an award for Otley in Bloom.
The one metre square display, based around a small, yellow-painted bicycle carrying planters full of bright flowers, scooped a bronze award at Harrogate Flower Show.
The garden was designed by Katie Burnett, from Courtyard Planters, and also features plants which are attractive to pollinating insects – a reference to Otley in Bloom’s nectar bed at Wharfemeadows Park.
The group is also placing other bright yellow decorated bikes around Otley to herald the visit of the Tour de France to the town on Saturday, July 5.
