THE mother of a Bradford District councillor celebrated her 100th birthday with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bradford.
Doris Irene Smith, known to most as Reine, celebrated her birthday at the home of her son, Ilkley ward councillor, Martin Smith, last Monday (August 4).

She was born on August 4, 1914, the same day that Britain declared war on Germany. in the First World War
During the family event, reminiscences were heard of her secretarial services during the Second World War and the struggles with the economy afterwards, in rebuilding the nation.
Her late husband, Walter, durinjg his reserved occupation during the War, built parts for steam engines in Swindon and later his engineering skills went into in building printing machines for George Mann's - later Vickers - in Hunslet.
