Stanley United 2 Pool 1
Pool made a disappointing start on their return to Division One.
They gave away two soft goals early in the match and it proved costly.
From this point, Pool were the better side, but then compounded the situation by missing a penalty.
The second half was virtually one way traffic, with Pool hitting the woodwork five times as they pressed in a bid to pull back the two-goal deficit. Add to that several goal line blocks and a couple of inspired saves and it clearly was not Pool’s day.
Neil Ebdon pulled a goal back direct from a free kick, but this proved to be too little, too late.
If Pool learn from their mistakes and come out of the blocks faster, their class, which showed for much of this match will see them win many more than they lose.
