Yarnbury are preparing for one of the biggest games in their 152-year history at Brownberrie Lane on Saturday.

They take on Stewarts and Lloyds RFC from Corby in the semi-final of the RFU Senior Vase and the prize for the winners will be a final at Twickenham on Sunday, May 4.

The other semi-final sees Harrow tackle the Gloucestershire side Newent.

Yarnbury, who are just two points away from clinching promotion from Yorkshire Division One, would love to crown their season with an appearance at the home of English rugby.

Saturday’s match will be watched by a crowd of more than 1,000 which will include a number of local dignitaries Their opponents, who play in the East Midlands Division Three, will have plenty of backing and are busily laying on coaches for their supporters.

Yarnbury are one of Yorkshire’s oldest rugby clubs. They were founded in Headingley in 1872.

They are playing the competition for the first time and are relishing the experience.

They reached the last four with an emphatic win at Ormskirk who were full of praise for the Horsforth-based side.

Head coach Bob Hood and former Otley director of rugby Gary Walker have been responsible for preparing Yarnbury for the twin challenges of winning prom-otion and playing in the RFU Senior Vase.

They have managed to rotate their playing resources effectively as the demands of the season have taken their toll.

They have also ensured that the team, led by Oliver Cashman, have been well prepared and no doubt they will have been paying extra attention to detail this week in the build up to the semi-final.
