Rawdon AFC4 Walkers Arms 3

TWO spectacular strikes from the in-form Danny Forrest saw Rawdon progress to the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Sunday Cup at the expense of trophy holders Walkers Arms.

Walkers are a strong side mainly made up of the players of successful County Amateur League clubs Golcar United and Bay Athletic.

Rawdon did well with the wind behind them in the opening 20 minutes but gave away a goal when a back pass went straight to a Walkers player.

Lee Poole pulled Rawdon level but Walkers went 2-1 up. Forrest levelled with a great goal in which he used his strength to win the ball and then hammered the ball home. Walkers were not finished and they went ahead again at 3-2 when a shot bobbled out of keeper Andrew Pickering's hands at the near post and was forced home.

Rawdon levelled again through Si Wilson and then Forrest won the game when he challenged for the ball and his strength took him round his defender. The keeper came out but Forrest cracked the ball home in fine style.

Rawdon will now visit Oakenshaw in the quarter-finals.

Pool Reserves 3 Knaresborough 0

Pool Reserves took on Knaresborough Celtic. With Pool having taken 12 points from a possible 15 over the past five weeks, they were looking to make it five wins from six games.

Pool were slow out the blocks with Celtic having the better of the early exchanges. Only stout defending from skipper Graham Evans, his centre-half partner Matt Healy and veteran keeper Steve Thompson saw the game stay level at 0-0.

Rhys Duffissey also worked tirelessly in his new midfield role breaking up Celtic play. The game was not going to plan for Pool. Celtic were playing a high line and catching Pool off-side with almost every attack. Again Celtic looked the better team in terms of shape and endeavour but they just didn't have that finishing touch which would have given them a deserved lead going into the interval.

A harsh word from the management saw Pool come out a different team. An inspired substitution saw brothers Ben and Sam Townend come of the bench and the game changed.

Pool started to get the ball down and play some decent football. A neat pass from Sam Townend saw Matt Budden finish off a good move. From then on it was all Pool. Tireless work from Mo Ishaq saw him get his just rewards. His first goal put Pool 2-0 up then a superb volley made it 3-0. The non-stop work of Duffissey saw him pick up the Man-of-the-Match award.

Five wins in six games now for Pool is certainly promotion form but their main concern is the league fixture against Thirsk Falcons.

Kirk Deighton 2Addingham 3

Following the previous week's disgraceful display against a poor Masham side Addingham once again were away from home, this time to struggling Kirk Deighton Rangers.

A blustery day ,and a rutted pitch were hardy conducive to free flowing football but with a determination to put last week's awful 4-2 defeat behind them Addingham set about their game from the outset and should have opened the scoring inside the first minute. The pattern of the game was set as Addingham squandered another glorious chance.

Playing up the slope but aided by the wind Addingham continued to press Deighton back and unless the poor finishing was to prevail then an opening goal was bound to come.

On 15 minutes come it did but it was Deighton who scored. Sam Lee in goal failed to deal with a routine through ball and the centre-forward tapped it in.

In hindsight this was a minor blessing, it gave Addingham a fresh edge as they now knew they could not afford to keep squandering opportunities. Three minutes later Si Collins levelled with a far post diving header after a fine cross from Perkins.

More chances came and went before Tom Jonathon Ross-Jones hit a speculative long ball into the box. The defender unsure as to its direction glanced a header perfectly past his own keeper.

As the half drew to a close Perkins was giving the home defence real problems. Even on the bobbly surface his skill and pace were leaving defenders with little option but to hack him down.

He was hauled down in the box and the penalty was netted by Si Collins for a 3-1 lead.

Sadly the foul on Perkins was on the same ankle in the same spot and he was helped of the pitch and replaced by Andy Brightman.

Uphill with the wind behind them in the second-half Deighton gave themselves something to grasp at. Another error by Sam Lee gifted the home side a second goal they had hardly deserved.

This though was a close as Deighton were ever going to get. With Mills and Marriot back in defence alongside Andy Collins and Dave Dixon the back four was back to its best dealing with sporadic attacks with ease.

Addingham's profligacy in front of goal continued to make the game a tense affair. Brightman had a superb game but his reward should have been the goal his work rate and skill deserved.

Addingham continued to waste chances but in fairness Deighton's goals had come from errors.

For Addingham Rennolds was outstanding as were Noble, Jordan and Collins.

Tougher games await for Addingham none more so than this Saturday's trip to Dalton.
